Salvaged & Recycled Materials

Charlie has worked with various materials, salvaged and recycled included.  Always environmentally conscious, Charlie has been making beautiful pieces from old barn boards, recycled moldings and other parts from historic buildings before being remodeled or torn down, and rustic pine logs. 

Barn Board Queen Bed

 

The materials for this bed were acquired from a nearly collapsed barn near Ojibwa, WI.  The materials were sprayed with a treatment to kill any insects living in the boards.  Afterwards, the best pieces were planed, joined, sanded and cut into workable sections to create this elegant four poster bed.

 

 

Barn Board Office Desk

 

As with the bed, the materials used for this desk were rescued from the same barn and put through the same preparation for use.  In the desktop, some of the original weather-worn texture is still visible, making this piece unique.

Wane Edge Walnut Table

 

While this piece is influenced by multiple artists, the main inspiration came from the designs of George Nakashima.  This salvaged walnut kept its character, shown by the lighter colored grain surrounding the open pocket in the table top.
